Look who's gone off the deep end. What country do you think this is?? If
there are any criminals on the net they are probably bright enough to know
that this type of info and the helping hardware is trivial to come by.

I don't know where the person who writes the ARRL DX bulletins got
the idea that the NCDXF is a participant in this DXpedition, but
it isn't. One of the Foundation directors (the president, to be
specific) is going on the trip, but that's simply because he's an
ardent DXpeditioner. He's going as a "private citizen," not as a
Foundation official.
In fact, we aren't even putting up any money for this DXpedition; they
are so well funded (mostly by the Saturday Evening Post) that they
don't even need our help with the cost of QSL cards.
The Foundation is happy that Bouvet will again be on the air, but
we aren't involved in either of the planned DXpeditions.

p.s. I increased the distribution on this to "world" because folks
outside North America might have received the ARRL bulletin through
other means, and I wanted to correct this misinformation as widely
as possible.

The comment stands, however. If you HAD listened to the transmissions, you
would realize that they were NOT encrypted. As a member of the military, you
should also be aware that anything they want secure, will be secure. If they
transmit in the clear, they don't care who listens. Why should you?

Non sequitor. What you are implying, is that it is somehow "immoral" to listen
to the radio. This is part of your personal belief system, perhaps, but you
should be aware that not all of us share it... and we are not doing anything
illegal by not sharing it.

And for some reason, no one noticed for 50+ years. Sure.

Note the use of the word "unlawful". To be unlawful there must be a LAW
prohibiting the reception in question. There is none.

Are you sure of that? Who told YOU? How do you a priori distinguish them?
Besides, the billboard analogy is more appropriate. If you shout something
in my ear, I am under no obligation to ignore it.

I saw the recent list of military call signs associated with units. I don't
know how old that was, but AWACS hasn't been "Edgy" for about 7 years.
You better start listening better out there! :-)

I have a couple of these things we use to communicate among a bunch
of dirt bike riders. They work great. Audio quality is amazingly good,
at least as good as the typical handheld microphone. It does a good
job of blocking noise -as long as you keep your mouth shut!
We've looked at using these things as a VOX microphone for handhelds. It
should work just fine.
I highly recommend these things for motorcycles, tower work or any
other area where you don't really want to use your hands.
